A few years ago, I attended a mental health conference with some Palestinian psychologists and psychiatrists--the vast majority of whom were from the territories occupied in 1984, while the rest were from the West Bank. Seminars started to flow one by one, until the facilitator announced a lecture titled “An Israeli in the Psychotherapy Room.” The lecturer addressed the case when a Palestinian therapist tries to mentalize the psyche of an Israeli patient.
