To our colleagues at Birzeit University:
The USA-Palestine Mental Health Network condemns the Israeli military raid at Birzeit
University on January 6, 2026. Birzeit is a premier university for Palestinian students in
the Occupied West Bank. The Israeli forces stormed the university with live ammunition
while classes were in session, injuring 40 people, mostly students, and trapping 8,000
people inside of the university. There is absolutely no justifiable cause for this abhorrent
action. It is an act intended to terrorize innocent people and adds to the ongoing trauma
of the occupation, military detention, and gross violations of human rights.
We stand in solidarity with the students and faculty of Birzeit who issued this statement
condemning the invasion and affirming their university as a space for knowledge and
freedom.
